Moroccan Football Stars Celebrate Security Council Decision: A Historic Day for Moroccan Sahara

Feelings of national pride have surged within the Moroccan sports community following the historic decision made by the United Nations Security Council, which endorsed the autonomy proposal under Moroccan sovereignty as a final resolution to the regional conflict over the Sahara. Football stars and national clubs have expressed their pride at what they described as a new victory for Morocco under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.

Nourredine Amahribt, a player for Wydad Casablanca, was among the first to offer his congratulations, stating in a video posted by the club: “A very big day, and I’m happy. I congratulate His Majesty King Mohammed VI and all Moroccans on the Security Council’s decision to support Morocco in its initiative for autonomy in the Sahara. Thank God, and long live the king!”

International player Hakim Ziyech, who recently joined Wydad, shared his immense happiness about the decision, saying: “This is a very big day due to the vote in favor of Moroccan Sahara. We are proud and happy for our country. Let’s celebrate… long live the king and always Morocco.”

International star Achraf Hakimi, from Paris Saint-Germain, expressed his joy in his own way by posting a picture of King Mohammed VI on his official Instagram account, accompanied by the phrase: God, homeland, king.

The celebrations were not limited to individuals, as Moroccan clubs also expressed their pride. Olympique Safi released a video showcasing its players and coaching staff singing the national anthem in celebration of the decision, while former coach Ameen Kramah shared a photo of the Moroccan map accompanied by messages of pride and honor.

It’s noteworthy that the UN Security Council approved a historic decision on Friday that marks a new turning point in the resolution of the fabricated conflict over the Moroccan Sahara. It expressed full support for the UN Secretary-General and his personal envoy in facilitating negotiations based on the Moroccan autonomy proposal, framing it as a realistic, fair, and lasting solution consistent with the UN Charter.
