Fishing Industry in Northern Morocco Increases by 6% to Over 13,000 Tons

The volume of fishery products unloaded at ports and fishing villages along the Mediterranean coast of northern Morocco experienced a growth of 6% by the end of October, reaching approximately 13,516 tons, according to data from the National Fisheries Office.

The monthly report from the office indicates that the commercial value of these products also rose by 3%, amounting to 601.21 million dirhams, compared to 585.65 million dirhams during the same period in 2024.

In terms of catch types, pelagic fish showed a slight decrease of 1%, totaling 4,786 tons, with a value of nearly 120.17 million dirhams, compared to 4,823 tons and 122.49 million dirhams a year earlier.

Conversely, the quantities of white fish increased by 17%, reaching 2,404 tons, with a market value exceeding 88.97 million dirhams. On the other hand, mollusks saw a 5% reduction in volume to 4,425 tons, valued at 304.23 million dirhams, while crustaceans declined by 8% to 1,061 tons, although their financial value experienced a slight increase of 3%, reaching 81.22 million dirhams.

At the national level, the office highlights that the quantity of coastal and artisanal fishery products marketed up to the end of October decreased by 14%, totaling 948,177 tons, while their commercial value dropped by 3% to approximately 8.94 billion dirhams, compared to 9.23 billion dirhams in the previous year.
