The European Parliament: A Crucial Vote in Favor of the Agricultural Agreement Between the European Union and Morocco
The European Parliament voted on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, against a “motion for objection” aimed at halting the execution of the amended agricultural agreement between the European Union and Morocco, thus affirming its support for the European Commission’s proposal regarding this agreement.
The agreement, signed on October 3, 2025, as part of an exchange of letters, stipulates the application of the same customs preferences for agricultural products coming from the southern regions of the Kingdom as those in the rest of Morocco. Additionally, the new amendment provides further technical arrangements, particularly regarding labeling, whereby products from the southern regions will be required to indicate their production area (such as “Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra” or “Dakhla-Oued Eddahab”) according to agreed criteria.
The initiative to disrupt the agreement was led by deputies opposing the inclusion of products from the southern regions within the trade arrangements, but it failed to garner the necessary majority. With this vote, the European Parliament reinforced the legal framework that allows Moroccan agricultural exports, including those from the southern regions, to continue to the European market.
This legislative green light represents a diplomatic and economic victory for Morocco and its agricultural professionals, ensuring the stability of the legal status of their exports and securing the continuity of agricultural partnership with the European Union, especially following the European Court of Justice’s decision in 2024 to annul the previous agreement.
