Casablanca Hosts Chinese Trade Week to Enhance Economic Partnership with Morocco
The exhibition spaces in Casablanca, under the supervision of AMDIE, are hosting the seventh edition of the China Trade Week Morocco this week. This event has become a reference point for Moroccan, Chinese, and African economic players alike. Organized by the MIE Group, the event aims to enhance trade and industrial links between Morocco and China amid rapidly growing bilateral cooperation.
During the opening ceremony, organizers highlighted Morocco’s strategic role in its relations with China. David Wang, president of the MIE Group, stated that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce considers Morocco one of the promising markets globally, due to its natural position as a bridge between Africa and Europe.
For his part, Cheng Wei, a counselor at the Chinese embassy in Morocco, emphasized the positive dynamics of Chinese-Moroccan relations. Since Morocco joined the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative in 2016, economic cooperation has seen significant enhancement, making China Morocco’s largest trading partner. In 2024, the leaders of both countries exchanged congratulatory messages on the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations, marking a new phase in this partnership.
Statistics indicate a growing volume of trade between the two countries: in 2021, trade reached $9.04 billion, reflecting a 21.6% increase, and this figure is expected to exceed $10 billion by 2025. Chinese investment in Morocco continues to expand, registering $774 million in 2024, with a focus on Tangier, which hosts around 40 Chinese companies in sectors such as automotive, renewable energy, textiles, and industrial engineering.
From the private sector, Mahdi El-Iraqi, president of the Moroccan-Chinese Economic Council at CGEM, affirmed that the Chinese Trade Week reflects both countries’ desire to enhance economic collaboration. He noted that investments are currently primarily flowing from China to Morocco, yet Moroccan companies hold significant opportunities in the Chinese market, praising the role of the Moroccan community in China in facilitating economic exchanges in renewable energy, artificial intelligence, health, and education.
The seventh edition of the event runs from November 19 to 21, gathering economic players from various sectors. It provides spaces for business meetings, showcases industrial and technological solutions, and creates networking opportunities for investors, suppliers, and industrial actors. This 2025 edition confirms Morocco’s leading role as a regional platform for cooperation with China and a strategic bridge connecting Africa to global markets.
