Kidnapping of 315 Individuals from “Saint Mary” School in Central Nigeria During Armed Attack
The Christian Association of Nigeria announced today, Saturday, that the number of individuals abducted from “Saint Mary” School in Niger State has risen to 315, following a review of initial data that initially reported 227 missing.
The association clarified that the new tally includes 303 students and 12 teachers, after a comprehensive audit of the casualty figures from the attack carried out by armed assailants early Friday morning.
“Saint Mary” School is located in an area recognized as an educational stronghold for the Christian community, accommodating hundreds of students across various educational levels, making it an appealing target for armed groups that exploit the weak security protections present in educational institutions outside major cities.
Data suggests that the abducted individuals have been taken to remote locations, a tactic likely used by armed groups to exert pressure and negotiate ransom, amid the fragile security situation in some rural areas.
