Wydad Achieves Important Victory Over Asante Kotoko, Puts One Foot in Next Round of Confederation Cup
The Moroccan team Wydad Athletic Club secured a significant away victory against Ghana’s Asante Kotoko, winning 1-0 on Sunday at the Accra Stadium in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The first half saw a balanced performance, with Wydad creating several dangerous opportunities, the most notable being shots from Ayoub El Wariq. However, these chances were not converted into goals due to a lack of offensive efficiency.
At the start of the second half, Joseph Packaso opened the scoring for Wydad in the 47th minute, capitalizing on a mix-up in the Kotoko defense. The Ghanaian team’s situation worsened after their goalkeeper was sent off in the 50th minute, granting Wydad complete control of the match, which they maintained until the final whistle.
With this victory, Wydad takes a step closer to advancing to the next round, with the return leg scheduled in Casablanca, where they aim to confirm their superiority and secure a qualification ticket.
