Trump Orders Preparation for Intelligence Sharing with Ukraine Regarding Strikes Inside Russia
Following reports from the Financial Times, U.S. President Donald Trump has directed several American agencies to prepare for the exchange of intelligence with Ukraine that could enable it to carry out strikes deep within Russian territory.
The newspaper cited informed sources indicating that a final decision has not yet been made, as discussions continue within Trump’s inner circle regarding the effectiveness of such a move. It pointed out that some of the president’s close aides doubt the ability of weapons such as Tomahawk missiles to significantly alter the battlefield dynamics in Ukraine.
Nonetheless, Trump continues to assert his refusal to use American taxpayers’ money to fund direct military aid to Kyiv, preferring that NATO allies in Europe purchase American weapons and subsequently supply them to Ukraine.
The paper further explained that Washington is working to encourage its partners within the alliance to expand the intelligence support directed at Ukraine, as the UK is already providing intelligence assistance that enables Kyiv to launch attacks inside Russian territory.
It is worth noting that Trump announced last August an agreement with the European Union to send American weapons to Ukraine with European funding, including Patriot batteries along with various missiles.
