The United Nations Security Council will hold a decisive session tomorrow, Friday, October 31, 2025, at 3 PM New York time (8 PM Rabat time) to discuss the issue of Western Sahara, as part of the council’s agenda for October.

This meeting aims to reaffirm international support for the political resolution process under Moroccan leadership, through the voting on a resolution to extend the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), which had previously been postponed due to developments in Sudan. The U.S. draft resolution is based on international consensus that acknowledges Morocco’s ongoing efforts to promote stability and development in the region.

Despite Algeria’s failed attempts to impose any amendments to the draft resolution, most council members rejected any changes to the text, reaffirming their commitment to the language that reflects international support for resolving the fabricated conflict in Western Sahara under full Moroccan sovereignty. This represents another diplomatic victory for Morocco on the international stage.
