The National Film Festival in Tangier Returns for its 25th Edition with a Rich and Diverse Program

The National Film Festival in Tangier returns for its twenty-fifth edition with a rich and diverse program.

Set to take place in Tangier from October 17 to 25, 2025, this event, organized under the patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is set to be a significant highlight in the national cinematic landscape, showcasing a selection of films in the official competitions and panorama sections.

The Moroccan Cinematic Center announced in a statement that independent selection committees, composed of professionals in the film and cultural sectors, carefully reviewed the registered films and concluded with three main categories for the official competition: feature films, short narrative and documentary films, and feature-length documentaries.

In the feature film category, 15 films have been selected, including: “Africa Blanca” by Aziz El Arabi Alawi, “Atom” by Anwar El Moutassim, “Autisto” by Jerome Cohen-Olivar, “Fragments” by Fatine El Mohammedi and Abdelilah Zerra, “In Love with Toudart” by Nabil Ayouch, “Dear Little” by Karima Kanouni, “The Six-Month War” by Jalal Farahati, “The Distant Sea” by Said Hamich Belarabi, “The Blue Mirror” by Daoud Ouled Sidi, “The Testament” by Sanae Akroud, “Love in Dakhla” by Khalid Brahimi, “Mouvita” by Alghzouni Midan, “Radia” by Khawla Asbab Ben Omar, “The Land of Angels” by Rashid Fkak, and “The Lost Princess” by Hicham Haji.

In the short narrative and documentary film category, another 15 films have been selected, including: “Aisha” by Sana El Alaoui, “Boujloud” by Ghita Boussfiha (Rita B Lmot), “Sheikha” by Ayoub El Yousfi and Zahwa Al Raji, “Creeping Birds” by Karim Tajawout, “Escaping 1944” by Said Hasbi, “Discordant” by Rashid Zaki, “Take Me to the Moon” by Zakaria Nouri, “Blood Brothers” by Mohsin Al Nadifi, “The City” by Randa Maaroufi, “Mirror for Sale” by Hicham Amal, “A New Life” by Ayoub Ait Bih, “Safety Road” by Nawal Ajwira, “The High House” by Mohamed Kara, “Close and Stay Away” by Leila Al Masfar, and “Gardens of Heaven” by Sonia Al Turab.

The feature-length documentary category features notable works such as: “Amers” by Hicham Ibrahim, “Amazon” by Salma Loukhmisi and Rachida Saidi, “Amanat Aishata… A Voice with Longing Flows from the Heart of Wadi Noun” by Omar Miyara, “Amanekri Al Baydan” by Ali Oulad Bou Solah, “Departure” by Sidi Mohamed Fadel Jamani, “Women of Hacer” by Moulay Khaled Albomsaouli, “Proud and Somewhat Stubborn” by Mohammed Akram Nammassi, “I Will Not Forget You” by Mohammed Reda Kaznai, “La Couchette” by Dounia Niouf, “The Pink Flamingo” and “Desert Call” by Hassan Khar, “A Thousand and One Days” by Haj Edmon Simon Betoun, “Independence of Algeria, a Moroccan Issue” by Hassan Al Bahri, “Prisoners of Waiting” by Luna Al Younsi, “Dreams of Wadi Noun” by Abdul Qadir Atweif, and “Sweilem” by Sidi Salek Al Boudnani.

This edition will also feature screenings in the “Panorama” section, providing the audience an opportunity to watch long and short narrative and documentary works, such as: “My Routine” by Latifi Ait Jawi, “Bitter Algae” by Idris Shweika, “Hadda and Karimo” by Hicham Al-Jabari, “The Hero” by Omar Lotfi, “Al-Mahi” by Abdullah Sardaoui, “Game of Life” by Al Hassan Boujdour, and “To the Tent” by Ahmed Bouchelik. Short films will also be showcased, including: “Waves of Wadi” by Hiba Al-Shaari, “Rose” by Hassan Zahi, “Sophia” by Ayoub Boujadi, “Beyond the Waves” by Amina Farhati, “Spring” by Zakaria Kharrat, “Candle” by Ismail Ait Hassan, and “He, She, and the Cats” by Hassan Maenani.

This rich program reflects the festival’s desire to highlight the diversity of Moroccan cinematic production and to encourage creators from various generations, in addition to enhancing Tangier’s status as a space for celebrating the seventh art.
