Slight Increase in Prices in Marrakech During August.. Food Items at the Forefront

Marrakech experienced a slight increase in prices during August 2025, at a rate of 0.5%, according to data from the Regional Directorate of the High Commission for Planning in the Marrakech-Safi region. The consumer price index rose from 121.1 to 121.7 points.

The Commission explained that this rise is primarily attributed to a 1.1% increase in food prices, while non-food items saw a marginal increase of only 0.1%.

Several food items noted significant price hikes between July and August, notably meats (+3.6%), fruits (+2.9%), vegetables (+2.3%), and fish and seafood (+0.6%). Additionally, dairy products and eggs rose by (+0.2%), along with bread and cereals (+0.1%). Conversely, the prices of oils and fats decreased by 1.9%.

In terms of non-food products, price changes varied, featuring a slight decrease in furniture and household equipment (-0.1%) and an increase in transport costs (+0.4%).

In the first eight months of 2025, Marrakech recorded a total increase of 0.5% compared to the same period in 2024, with the index rising from 120.7 to 121.3 points.

However, a year-on-year comparison between August 2024 and August 2025 showed a decline in the price index by 0.4%, dropping from 122.2 to 121.7 points, attributed to a 1% decrease in food prices and a 0.3% drop in non-food products.

Notable decreases included fish and seafood (-9.5%), oils and fats (-8.5%), soft drinks and juices (-6.4%), meats (-4.3%), and bread and cereals (-0.7%). In contrast, vegetables (+10.9%) and fruits (+3.9%) continued to show significant increases, along with coffee, tea, and cocoa (+1.1%) and sugar and its derivatives (+1.3%).
