Morocco Showcases Its Experience in Artificial Intelligence in Geneva
The Mauritania Development Network (RUDM) organized a parallel seminar on “Human Rights and Artificial Intelligence” on Wednesday at the United Nations Office in Geneva, coinciding with the 60th session of the Human Rights Council.
The seminar, attended by around thirty participants, included representatives from several permanent diplomatic missions to the United Nations, including those from Germany, Luxembourg, Rwanda, the Netherlands, and Poland, reflecting the growing international interest in this topic.
A highlight of the event was a presentation by Imam Boucif, head of the Regional Youth Association for Economy and Politics in the Dakhla – Oued Eddahab region, who shed light on Morocco’s pioneering experience in utilizing artificial intelligence for human development and ensuring fundamental rights. He emphasized that the southern regions, particularly Dakhla and Laayoune, have become fertile ground for innovative projects across various fields.
In the health sector, digital solutions and artificial intelligence have been integrated to enhance early diagnosis and improve the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens. In the education sector, initiatives have been adopted to integrate modern technologies into schools and universities, contributing to the formation of a new generation of qualified talents. In agriculture, smart technologies have been introduced to manage water resources and monitor production quality, boosting productivity and enhancing food security in the region.
Participants also emphasized that artificial intelligence presents both a challenge and an opportunity, as it can enhance human dignity and sustainable development, provided that ethical frameworks and sound governance are established.
The attendees agreed that Morocco presents a unique model in this field, due to its strong political will, integrated development strategy, and innovative projects in the southern regions, which have become testing grounds for leading digital solutions.
In conclusion, the participants called on the international community to benefit from the Moroccan experience and to collaborate in ensuring that artificial intelligence remains a tool for humanity, peace, and social justice.
