Morocco and Chad Sign Agreement to Enhance Cooperation in Energy and Minerals

Morocco and Chad have taken a significant step towards strengthening their bilateral cooperation by signing a framework agreement for collaboration in the fields of energy and minerals. This event took place during a ceremony in the capital, Rabat, demonstrating the two countries’ desire to establish a strategic partnership based on knowledge transfer and economic integration.

This agreement is part of a package of six cooperation protocols signed by both sides, which also includes agriculture and livestock, tourism, culture, and training in telecommunications and documentation. Additionally, an agreement was reached to eliminate mutual visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, official, and service passports, facilitating the movement of officials between the two countries.

In the energy sector, Morocco is poised to share its advanced expertise in renewable energies, particularly in solar and wind energy, to support Chad in its rural electrification projects and sustainable development initiatives. In the minerals sector, the partnership will focus on exchanging technical and organizational expertise and launching joint projects to explore strategic mineral resources.

This initiative reflects a shared vision between Rabat and N’Djamena based on South-South cooperation aimed at advancing sustainability, innovation, and regional integration. It also underscores Morocco’s growing role as a continental player in energy transition and the sustainable development of African natural resources.

This cooperation opens new economic opportunities, enhancing Morocco’s presence in the coastal-Saharan region through a comprehensive and forward-looking economic diplomacy.
