Marrakech celebrates global folklore in a new edition featuring over 600 artists from five continents.

This week, the city of Marrakech transforms into an open-air stage for global folk arts, kicking off the seventh edition of the Marrakech International Folklore Festival, which brings together more than 600 artists from various continents in a collective celebration of cultural diversity and human creativity.

The festival, organized by the Heritage and Folklore Association in partnership with M Avenue, and supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Interior, the Marrakech municipality, the Artisan House, the Marrakech-Afsee Regional Tourism Council, the Jardin Majorelle Foundation, and the Djemaa El Fna Stars Center, solidifies the position of the red city as a global hub for cultural and artistic exchange.

Participants from Morocco and countries ranging from Armenia, Mali, and Senegal to Indonesia, Italy, Austria, and the United Kingdom will showcase artistic performances and cultural workshops that reflect the richness of folk heritage and the diversity of artistic expressions worldwide, all in an atmosphere of openness, tolerance, and dialogue between cultures.

This year’s edition places a special emphasis on Marrakech’s culture and the arts of “Dakka,” which symbolize the city’s rich local heritage and a unique way of celebrating life. It aims to highlight the spirit of Marrakech, known globally for its enduring joy, warm hospitality, and generosity, as a symbol of openness and coexistence.

Over seven years of continuous organization, the festival has established itself as an annual cultural event eagerly awaited by lovers of folk arts, whether they are residents or visitors from all over the world, becoming a platform for cultural dialogue and artistic exchange among nations.

The organizing body, the Heritage and Folklore Association, confirms that the aim of this event is to valorize Moroccan intangible cultural heritage and to promote it on the international stage through folk arts and cultural practices that reflect the depth and richness of Moroccan identity.

According to the organizers, the Marrakech International Folklore Festival represents a unique space for the meeting of human creativity in its diversity and serves as an artistic bridge connecting civilizations at a time when culture has become one of the strongest tools for rapprochement and understanding among peoples.
