Venezuelan “Maria Corina Machado” Wins Nobel Peace Prize 2025
The leader of the opposition in Venezuela, Maria Corina Machado, has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2025, in recognition of her prominent role in defending democracy and her ongoing struggle for a peaceful transfer of power in her country.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced on Friday that Machado was selected for her “steadfastness in protecting the democratic rights of Venezuelans and her continuous pursuit of a fair political system,” according to their official statement.
This announcement coincides with remarks from U.S. President Donald Trump, who reiterated his demand for the same award, pointing to his contribution in brokering a two-year ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.
It is worth noting that the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the Japanese organization Nihon Hidankyo, honored for its efforts in advocating for the abolition of nuclear weapons, based on testimonies from the survivors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings.
