Increase in Coastal and Traditional Fishing Quantities in the Mediterranean by 5% Until September 2025

Coastal and traditional fishing quantities discharged at the Moroccan Mediterranean ports have recorded an increase of 5% by the end of September 2025, reaching 12,571 tons, compared to the same period last year, according to data from the National Fisheries Office.

In terms of financial value, these discharges amounted to over 577.17 million dirhams, marking an increase of 3% compared to 561.97 million dirhams recorded during the same period in 2024, according to the monthly report from the office on coastal and traditional fishing statistics in Morocco.

The report indicated that small pelagic fish, the main product discharged between Tangier and Saidia, saw an increase of 2%, reaching 4,532 tons valued at 117.68 million dirhams, compared to 4,455 tons and 117.27 million dirhams last year.

White fish also recorded significant growth of 11%, reaching 2,078 tons valued at 79.42 million dirhams, compared to 1,872 tons and 78.38 million dirhams the previous year.

Conversely, mollusks (octopus and squid) experienced a decline of 5%, stabilizing at 4,401 tons, despite generating revenues exceeding 302.92 million dirhams. Meanwhile, crustaceans decreased by 8% to 931 tons, although their value saw a slight increase of 2%, reaching 71.97 million dirhams.

Nationally, the total quantities discharged from coastal and traditional fishing products stood at 814,742 tons by the end of September 2025, reflecting a 13% decrease compared to the previous year, while their total value fell by 3% to approximately 8.20 billion dirhams, down from 8.46 billion dirhams during the same period in 2024.
