Four Injured in Car Attack Outside Synagogue in Manchester
Four people were injured this morning, Thursday, in a car and knife attack outside the Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester, United Kingdom. Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham reported that the suspect was shot and killed by security forces.
Greater Manchester Police stated they received a report this morning from a witness who observed a car heading towards people at the scene and that a man was stabbed. An emergency was quickly declared, and the police fired shots, which likely resulted in the suspect’s injury.
Emergency services arrived on the scene at 9:41 AM and provided treatment to the injured, including a security staff member. All four sustained injuries from the car and the stabbing.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer responded to the incident, expressing his shock and offering condolences to the victims’ families. He also announced the cancellation of his participation in the European Political Community summit in Copenhagen to return to London and chair a government emergency committee meeting.
This attack occurs during the celebration of Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, adding to the gravity of the incident.
