By Royal Instructions: Meeting with the AFRICOM Commander to Enhance Military Cooperation Between Morocco and the United States
In implementation of royal instructions, Mr. Abdellatif Loudiyi, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of National Defense Administration, received General Dagvin Anderson, Commander of the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the National Defense Administration headquarters, during a working visit to the Kingdom of Morocco.
During this meeting, both officials expressed their satisfaction with the strong ties between Morocco and the United States, as well as the remarkable level of military cooperation between the two countries. They reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the Moroccan-American strategic partnership, which is embodied in the 2020-2030 roadmap for defense cooperation signed in Rabat on October 2, 2020. They emphasized the importance of developing military cooperation in new areas and supporting the emergence of a national defense industry.
On the same day, General Mohammed Brirh, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone, received General Dagvin Anderson at the General Headquarters. This meeting provided an opportunity to discuss various aspects of bilateral military cooperation, including the modernization and enhancement of the readiness and capabilities of the Royal Armed Forces and joint training exercises. Both sides highlighted the significance of the annual “African Lion” exercise as the best model for practical coordination between Moroccan and American forces.
The Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and the AFRICOM Commander also exchanged views on the regional situation and ways to strengthen security and stability in the area. In this context, General Anderson expressed his deep appreciation for the professionalism displayed by the Royal Armed Forces and their prominent role in supporting military cooperation in Africa and reinforcing the principles of security and peace.
The strong military relations between Morocco and the United States draw their strength from the deep historical ties between the two countries and exemplify the spirit of strategic partnership through the exchange of expertise in defense industry sectors, training, acquisition of equipment, and coordination of military strategies, thereby enhancing the joint capability to confront new and complex challenges and threats.
