Boulemane Hosts the First Edition of the Saffron and Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Festival

Boulemane is preparing to host the first edition of the Saffron and Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Festival, taking place from October 16 to 19, 2025, under the slogan: “Local Products… A Lever for New Territorial Development.”

This event is organized by the Boulemane Development Association in partnership with the Ministry of Interior’s Rural Affairs Directorate, the Regional Agriculture Directorate, the Fez-Meknes Regional Council, the State Secretariat for Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, and the Boulemane Municipality, with the aim of enhancing the agricultural and natural resources of the region and supporting the solidarity economy.

This inaugural edition will feature a local products exhibition highlighting the quality of Boulemane saffron, renowned for its purity, along with the diverse medicinal and aromatic plants cultivated in the region. Seminars, roundtables, and workshops will be organized, bringing together researchers, professionals, cooperatives, and institutional actors to discuss topics such as sustainable development, enhancing local production chains, and innovation in mountain agriculture.

The program will also include cultural and artistic activities, including folklore evenings and field visits to discover the region’s landscapes, as well as training workshops for farmers and cooperatives to enhance their technical and managerial skills.

Boulemane saffron is a symbol of Moroccan agricultural skill and a high-value product that serves as a lever for sustainable economic development. Through this festival, the organizers aim to encourage innovative agriculture that respects the environment while creating added value and stable job opportunities for the rural population.

The event seeks to establish Boulemane as a national reference hub in the field of local product enhancement and responsible agricultural investment, focusing on involving women and youth in development projects to achieve inclusive and equitable growth.

Organizers emphasize that the initiative falls within the framework of the national strategy for sustainable rural development, linked to programs by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Fez-Meknes Regional Council, aimed at enhancing resilience to climate change and protecting natural resources.

The festival is not just a celebratory event; it is also a space for exchange, reflection, and experimentation, outlining the features of a new rural economy based on quality, sustainability, and territorial innovation.

Local stakeholders hope that this festival will contribute to establishing a distinctive territorial brand that showcases Boulemane products in national and international markets, at a time when global agriculture is undergoing significant transformations that require modernization of agricultural models and solidifying local identity within a modern and competitive economy.
