A parliamentary delegation from Italy visited Laayoune, reaffirming its support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Western Sahara.

The delegation, representing various political parties in Italy, aimed to explore the development landscape of the region and enhance bilateral cooperation between Morocco and Italy.

During their visit, the delegation held a series of meetings with the Mayor of Laayoune, Moulay Hamdi Ould Rachid, and the President of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra Regional Council, Sidi Hamdi Ould Rachid, where they discussed cooperation opportunities in industries such as tourism, renewable energy, health, and logistics.

Members of the delegation also toured several development projects in Laayoune and Boujdour to assess the scale of investments in the region.

Ettore Rosato, coordinator of the Italian parliamentary group, confirmed during the visit his country’s full support for Morocco’s autonomy initiative as a serious and realistic solution to the regional dispute over the Western Sahara, highlighting the economic and social dynamism of the southern provinces, thanks to King Mohammed VI’s developmental vision.

The delegation comprised notable political figures, including Stefania Ascari from the Five Star Movement, Graziano Pizzimenti and Marco Dreosto from the League, and Giovanbattista Aruolo and Giorgio Loveckio from Forza Italia.

This visit comes amidst a growing momentum in Moroccan-Italian relations and the renewed affirmation from European partners regarding support for the autonomy proposal as a practical option to ensure stability and development in the region.
