Maintenance Aero Maroc Launches Construction of Advanced Maintenance Center in Benslimane to Enhance the Aviation Sector
The Moroccan branch of Sabena Engineering, Maintenance Aero Maroc (MAM), has commenced construction of its new hangar at Benslimane Airport, dedicated entirely to heavy maintenance of C-130 Hercules and F-16 aircraft. This project represents a significant step in bolstering Morocco’s position in the strategic Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) sector.
The project is being developed in collaboration with MEDZ Morocco (a subsidiary of CDG) and American company Lockheed Martin. This trilateral cooperation between Morocco, Belgium, and the United States reflects the technological nature of the initiative. The objective is to establish a regional center of excellence in maintenance and technical training to support Morocco’s sovereignty and enhance the competitiveness of the national aviation sector.
Stefan Burton, General Director of Sabena Engineering, stated, “This construction is not just infrastructure; it embodies a collective ambition and mutual trust among partners committed to the future of aerial maintenance.” This statement encapsulates the project’s spirit, which aims to build internationally recognized maintenance capabilities in Morocco based on a sustainable industrial partnership.
The anticipated hangar will be operational by 2026, encompassing heavy maintenance, upgrades, and structural inspections of aircraft. It will facilitate the transfer of expertise and training for Moroccan technicians, creating qualified jobs in a high-value-added sector, with the goal of enhancing technological independence and flexibility in the national aviation industry.
Through this project, Morocco is reinforcing its status as an African aviation hub, supported by advanced sites such as Midparc in Nouacer and Safran facilities. MAM’s investment in Benslimane confirms the sector’s growing dynamism, aligning with the national strategy for sustainable manufacturing and technological advancement.
