A doctor and two nurses were convicted of involuntary manslaughter in Ouarzazate, with a civil compensation of one million dirhams awarded.
The Misdemeanor Court in Ouarzazate issued a ruling condemning a medical doctor who owns a private clinic in the city to six months in prison and a fine of 1,000 dirhams. This sentence comes after charges were brought against him by the public prosecution related to involuntary manslaughter due to negligence, failure to adhere to applicable regulations, and the issuance of a false medical certificate.
In a related matter, the same court convicted a retired nurse currently working in the private sector and an intensive care and anesthesia nurse to four months in prison and a similar fine each. They faced the same charges of involuntary manslaughter stemming from inadequate precautions and violations of professional regulations.
On the civil side of the case, the court accepted the lawsuit and ordered the defendants to pay civil compensation totaling one million dirhams to the civil plaintiffs, along with bearing the costs. It also decided that the insurance company would cover the compensation on behalf of the defendants, enforcing a minimal obligation solely on the third defendant, while rejecting the remaining requests.
