Washington activates the economic clause in its recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau announced that the U.S. government has decided to activate the economic and trade aspect of its recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern regions by encouraging American investments in the area.

This statement came following a meeting on Wednesday evening in New York with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

Landau clarified that Washington’s decision aligns with the initiatives launched by former President Donald Trump’s administration to enhance economic diplomacy, emphasizing that the U.S. encourages American companies to invest in the southern regions of Morocco.

The American official reiterated that his country is committed to fulfilling its obligations toward Morocco, stressing that this move opens new horizons for bilateral cooperation in the areas of development and investment.
