Urban Transport: Lfite Allocates 11 Billion Dirhams to Modernize Mobility in 21 Moroccan Cities
Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit has announced the launch of a new national urban transport strategy for the period 2025-2029, with a total budget of 11 billion dirhams aimed at improving mobility, reducing traffic congestion, and enhancing the quality of life in cities.
The plan targets 21 Moroccan cities, with the first phase focusing on renewing and modernizing bus fleets. Contracts have been signed in 17 cities amounting to approximately 3.7 billion dirhams for the procurement of newer, safer, and less polluting vehicles.
The strategy relies on five main pillars: developing appropriate infrastructure, acquiring modern buses and trams, digitizing services (including electronic tickets and smart traffic management), enhancing local governance, and improving safety and accessibility for citizens.
Officials point out that the success of this plan hinges not only on financial investment but also requires effective coordination between local authorities, transport operators, and beneficiaries to ensure the proper utilization and maintenance of the equipment, integrating it into a comprehensive and sustainable system.
Through this initiative, Morocco aims to give cities a new dynamic in urban transport, which has become a significant economic, social, and environmental challenge.
