Trump vows to restore security in Chicago and may deploy the National Guard.
Follow-up
U.S. President Donald Trump pledged on Tuesday to swiftly address the crime problem in Chicago, calling it the “most dangerous city in the world”, and indicated the possible deployment of National Guard troops there.
Trump stated, “I will solve the crime problem quickly, just as I did in Washington, D.C.”, referencing the National Guard deployment in the U.S. capital last month. He added that Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker “desperately needs help, but he hasn’t realized it yet”.
Trump cited recent statistics indicating that 54 individuals were shot over the past weekend in Chicago, eight of whom were killed, with similar figures recorded over previous weekends.
The U.S. President concluded by saying: “Safety will return to Chicago, and soon”.
