Moroccan Association for Victims’ Rights Condemns Coercion of Young Woman into Marrying Her Rapist

The Moroccan Association for Victims’ Rights has condemned the incident involving a young woman in Taza who was raped and subsequently forced, under pressure from her family and society, to marry her rapist.

The association stated that this incident represents a double violation of the rights of the victim and her child, emphasizing the need for strict measures to protect women and children who are victims of sexual violence.

The association called for the repeal of any legal provisions that allow the marriage of rape victims to their attackers, the tightening of penalties associated with physical and sexual violence, the provision of protection and support mechanisms for victims, and encouragement for them to report crimes. It also advocated for specialized training for law enforcement personnel to handle these cases effectively.

The association reaffirmed its full and unconditional support for the young woman, Iman, reiterating its commitment to standing by all victims of violence and sexual violence, and working to protect their rights and assist them in facing any violations.
