The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has appointed Haitham Issa as the new head of its office in Morocco. He will oversee the bank’s investments and activities in the Kingdom, succeeding Antoine Sal du Chou.
In a statement published on its official website, the bank indicated that Issa will report to Mark Davis, the managing director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region. He expressed his commitment to enhancing the bank’s presence in Morocco by supporting the private sector, developing infrastructure, funding small and medium-sized enterprises, and continuing institutional dialogue with various partners.
Issa, who holds dual Egyptian and British citizenship, stated that he looks forward to “making a deeper impact for the bank’s work in Morocco in the coming years,” highlighting that the institution’s successful experience in the country will serve as a foundation for expanding investments and promoting sustainable development.
Haitham Issa is recognized as a prominent talent within the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, having joined the organization in 2012 and progressing through key leadership positions, including heading the infrastructure sector in the region and serving as deputy head of the Egypt office. He has overseen major projects in transport and municipal services and played a crucial role in the vital infrastructure support program in Morocco during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Before joining the bank, he amassed extensive experience in investment banking, working on major mergers and acquisitions and financial market transactions in the Middle East and Africa.
It is worth noting that Morocco is a founding member of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and has been an operational area since 2012. Since then, the bank has invested over €5.8 billion in nearly 123 projects across the country.
