Tanzania Integrates Artificial Intelligence into Its Election Campaign for the First Time

As the general elections scheduled for October 29 approach, Tanzania is witnessing an unprecedented experiment featuring a chatbot powered by artificial intelligence to provide voters with information about political programs.

The ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), launched a new tool called “Kijani Elani” (“Green Statement” in Swahili), allowing citizens to ask questions about issues such as health, education, and infrastructure, receiving instant answers without having to browse through the entire election program.

This initiative aims to attract a wide range of young, internet-savvy voters, while opposition parties rely on social media to rally their supporters. Experts believe that the country is experiencing one of the most technologically advanced election campaigns in its history.

Despite the easy access to information provided by artificial intelligence, analysts warn of risks associated with controlling political discourse and its potential impact on voter choices.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan officially launched her election campaign on August 28, after four years in power following the death of former President John Magufuli, where she served as his deputy. She is now competing for her first elected term as head of state.
