Strengthening Energy Cooperation Between Morocco and Mauritania at the “Mauritanid” Exhibition

The Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, discussed ways to enhance cooperation with Mauritania’s Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mohamed Ould Khaled, on electrical and renewable energy matters during their meeting on Monday in Nouakchott.

These discussions took place on the sidelines of the “Mauritanid” Conference and Exhibition for Energy and Mines, attended by Morocco’s Ambassador to Mauritania, Hamid Chabar, and the General Director of Energy Production Development at the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Ahmed Bouzid, along with senior officials from Mauritania’s Ministry of Energy and Petroleum.

The meeting was an opportunity to confirm the significant progress in cooperation between the two ministries and among key stakeholders in the public and private sectors, contributing to the energy security of both countries and optimally utilizing their capacities.

Both sides praised the practical steps taken at the bilateral level in the energy sector, noting that these efforts reflect a shared vision for sustainable development benefiting the peoples of both nations and African countries in general, in line with the aspirations of the leaders of both nations, King Mohammed VI and Mauritania’s President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.

In a statement to the Moroccan News Agency, Minister Benali explained that the discussions aim to enhance relations between Morocco and Mauritania in the areas of electrical interconnection, energy, and mineral partnerships, emphasizing that both countries share a vision for the development of the energy sector and diversification of energy sources, in addition to localizing industries and enhancing mutual electricity linkage.

Minister Benali is leading a significant delegation at the seventh session of the “Mauritanid” Conference and Exhibition for Mining and Energy, inaugurated by Mauritania’s President, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.

The forum serves as a regional and international platform that brings together stakeholders in the mining, gas, oil, renewable energy, and green hydrogen sectors to discuss opportunities for developing these fields and enhancing their contributions to national and regional economies.

According to the organizers, the conference aims to provide opportunities for investors to explore ongoing projects and build partnerships in the fields of minerals and clean energy, as well as to showcase the investment environment in Mauritania, its mineral resources, and its strategy in the energy sector.
