Sufyan El Bakali qualifies for the 3000-meter steeplechase final at the World Championships “Tokyo 2025” by topping his heat.

In a new achievement for Moroccan athletics, runner Sufyan El Bakali continues to shine on the global stage after securing his place in the final of the 3000-meter steeplechase at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo 2025.

El Bakali, the world and Olympic champion, clinched qualification after leading his heat on Saturday, completing the distance in a time of 8 minutes and 26.99 seconds. He finished ahead of Ethiopia’s Germa Lamisha, who came second with a time of 8:27.79, while American Daniel Michalski took third place with a time of 8:28.76.

It is worth noting that the ongoing World Championships in the Japanese capital are taking place from September 13 to 21 and feature strong participation from the Moroccan national team, which is competing with 30 male and female athletes across various disciplines.
