Morocco-India: Omar Hajir Calls for Expanding Trade Exchanges and Exploring New Partnerships

Morocco continues its policy of openness towards Asia. During an official visit to New Delhi, the Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Omar Hajir, called for expanding and diversifying trade exchanges between Morocco and India, while exploring new partnerships to stimulate growth.

At an economic forum on business opportunities in India and West Asia, Hajir emphasized that the dynamics of Moroccan-Indian relations have significantly accelerated since His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s visit in 2015. He reaffirmed the Kingdom’s desire to enhance exchanges in strategic sectors such as agriculture, food processing, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, chemistry, and petrochemicals, as well as transport and logistics.

He also highlighted that Morocco serves as a strategic gateway for India to Africa and Europe, representing a crucial advantage in strengthening partnerships among southern countries. In this context, he praised the inauguration of the Tata Advanced Systems Maroc (TASM) factory in Berrechid, the first investment of the Indian group specializing in defense outside its territory, which focuses on producing WhAP 8×8 armored vehicles.

This economic mission is part of the 2025-2027 government program for foreign trade, which identifies India as a key destination for enhancing Moroccan exchanges with Asia.

The minister noted Morocco’s achievements, thanks to the royal vision in encouraging investment and developing industry and renewable energy, which have enabled it to become a major platform for trade and investment. With 12 free trade agreements covering around 3 billion consumers, Morocco occupies a distinguished position in sectors such as automotive, aerospace, phosphates, and food industries.

For his part, the Moroccan Ambassador in New Delhi, Mohamed Maliki, underscored the importance of the Indian-Arab economic forum as a platform for dialogue and cooperation, considering that the upcoming Arab-Indian forum will present a new opportunity to strengthen relations between New Delhi and the Arab world.
