The High Council of the Judicial Authority of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Supreme Judicial Council of the Republic of Iraq signed a memorandum of understanding today, Thursday, to enhance judicial cooperation between the two countries.
The memorandum was signed by Mr. Mohamed Abdellah Bouaaza, the President of the Court of Cassation and the delegated President of the High Council of the Judicial Authority of Morocco, and Mr. Faik Zidan, the President of the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq. It outlines the guiding principles for judicial cooperation aimed at deepening mutual understanding of judicial practices and legal operations.
The memorandum focuses on several key areas, including:
– Exchanging knowledge and information about judicial organization.
– Regularly exchanging visits and training sessions for judges.
– Organizing legal conferences and specialized seminars of mutual interest.
– Seeking to establish a twinning agreement between the Moroccan Court of Cassation and the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court.
– Benefiting from best practices by exchanging publications related to the decisions of both courts.
The signing of the memorandum reflects the shared will of both countries and their desire to elevate judicial cooperation, inspired by a common vision to achieve justice, strengthen the rule of law, and protect freedoms and fundamental rights.
During the visit, the delegated President of the High Council of the Judicial Authority of Morocco was received by Mr. Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, the Prime Minister of Iraq, and Mr. Mohammed al-Mashhadani, the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament. The meetings highlighted the historical ties between the two countries and the pivotal role of the judiciary in enhancing security, stability, and the protection of rights and freedoms.
The delegated President was accompanied by a delegation from the High Council of the Judicial Authority and the Charge d’Affaires of the Moroccan embassy in Baghdad.
