Cegelec: Moroccan Expertise in Energy Transmission Exported to Gulf Countries
Cegelec Maroc has strengthened its presence in the Gulf energy market after winning a new contract worth nearly two billion dirhams. This contract involves the construction of three electrical stations with a capacity of 400 kilovolts in both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
This success follows the company’s completion of the ALWAFRAH station in Kuwait, valued at 900 million dirhams, which is one of the largest strategic electrical projects in the region. It facilitates connections between Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq, contributing to the stability of the energy network in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
The station, covering an area of five hectares, is equipped with advanced GIS technology, including 3.2 kilometers of gas-insulated 400 kilovolt busbars, ten overhead lines with a capacity of 400 kilovolts, and four reactive power compensators with a capacity of 125 megavars, allowing for a capacity flow of up to 3,500 megawatts.
The project was awarded by the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA), highlighting the confidence placed in Moroccan engineering expertise for major projects in the region.
Abdullah Sabri, the General Manager of Cegelec Maroc, emphasized that the experience gained through energy transmission projects with the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water, along with similar achievements in African countries such as Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, and Guinea, has fostered the development of human resources capable of addressing the challenges of international projects with high technical value.
Following this successful experience in Kuwait, Cegelec continues its strategic expansion through new contracts in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, solidifying its position as a key partner in the development of energy infrastructure in the Gulf region.
