Lamora: Love in Times of War Hits Moroccan Cinemas After the Death of Its Director
The new film “Lamora: Love in Times of War” has entered Moroccan cinemas starting September 24, marking the last work of the late director Mohamed Ismail, who sadly did not get to see his film in front of an audience after a prolific artistic career.
The film is based on a story, screenplay, and dialogue by Mustafa Al-Chaab and Mohamed Amzaouri. It tells the story of Rosa, a young Moroccan woman born and raised in Spain, living a life far removed from her family’s history. At a critical moment, she decides to return to Morocco in search of her past and to confront herself amid the turmoil of love and history in a troubled era.
The film features a host of prominent names from Moroccan and Spanish artistic circles, including Farah Fassi, Mehdi Foulane, Hajar Boulayoun, Abdelilah Ramadan, Terma Airebi, Salah Dizane, Khotna Ramos, Farouk Aznabat, Mourad Oussadan, Mohamed Assou, Mohamed Bouglad, and Abdel Salam Sahrawi. The powerful performances combine the profound human dimension of the story with a cinematic experience that poses questions about identity, belonging, and memory.
The late director’s wife, Jamila Sadek, confirmed that the film was a grand dream and a message Ismail wanted to leave for future generations about identity, belonging, and love that knows no boundaries. She added that the film today bears his name and is dedicated to everyone who worked with him and supported him, remaining a testament to his creativity and love for cinema and humanity.
With “Lamora” showing in theaters, audiences are expected to experience an exceptional journey that merges visual and dramatic enjoyment, allowing them to celebrate the final mark of one of the most notable directors in the history of Moroccan cinema.
