King’s advisor Omar Azziman awarded the international prize “Memory for Democracy and Peace”

Nador – The Shared Memory Center for Democracy and Peace announced the awarding of the international prize “Memory for Democracy and Peace” to Dr. Omar Azziman, advisor to His Majesty the King, in its eighth edition.

The center stated that this award recognizes Azziman’s human rights, intellectual, and political journey, as he is one of the key architects of the Moroccan experience of equity and reconciliation, which has set a pioneering model in transitional justice and the establishment of values of peace, dignity, and coexistence.

The prize will be presented on Saturday, November 15, in Nador, during the opening of the fourteenth edition of the International Festival of Shared Memory Cinema. Azziman will also deliver the opening speech for the festival’s seminar the following day, titled “The Necessity of Peace Towards Global Transitional Justice,” where he will discuss the Moroccan reconciliation experience as a global reference.

The prize reflects a universal dimension by honoring prominent figures and institutions in its previous editions, including Tunisian leader Houssem Abbassi, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, former Spanish president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, former Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos, Aicha Al Khattabi, and French-Moroccan politician Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, along with the Three Cultures Foundation in Seville and the Moroccan Coalition for Climate Justice.
