Bourita Chairs Ministerial Meeting in New York on Women, Peace, and Security Agenda

On the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, chaired a high-level ministerial meeting in New York dedicated to the agenda of Women, Peace, and Security.

The meeting, attended by over fifteen ministers, provided an opportunity to highlight the expansion of Morocco’s national action plan in this domain, as well as to exchange experiences and best practices on an international level.

European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, praised the Kingdom’s efforts, noting that Morocco was among the first countries in North Africa to adopt such mechanisms alongside evaluation and monitoring tools. She also commended Morocco’s initiatives aimed at raising awareness of the impact of emerging crises—such as climate change and pandemics—on women and girls.

For her part, the Executive Director of UN Women expressed appreciation for Morocco’s organization of the meeting, emphasizing its exemplary role in implementing Security Council Resolution 1325. She regarded the expansion of the national action plan as a tangible demonstration of the Kingdom’s commitment and an inspiring model for other countries.

Attending ministers and officials lauded Morocco’s initiative and leadership in enhancing women’s rights and its active involvement in peace and security processes, particularly through its participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions.
