The threat posed by Algeria extends beyond Morocco, impacting other neighboring countries as well. Today, Thursday, Mali’s Ministry of Territorial Administration announced that its transitional government has filed a lawsuit against Algeria at the International Court of Justice, accusing it of committing “aggressive acts” following the downing of a Malian military drone conducting a reconnaissance mission.

Bamako explained that the drone was shot down on the shared desert border between the two countries on the night of March 31 to April 1, near the town of Tinzawaten in the Kidal region of northern Mali. The incident is considered an attempt to hinder the Malian army’s operations against armed groups active in the area.

The Malian government stated: “This blatant aggression, which Mali strongly condemns, aimed to disrupt the efforts of its armed forces and security forces in neutralizing armed terrorist groups. It follows a series of hostile and malicious acts that Malian authorities have repeatedly warned about.”

Bamako also added that it has repeatedly requested from Algerian authorities evidence that the drone violated Algerian airspace, but has not received any response.

Earlier, Algeria had announced that its forces shot down an armed drone after it breached Algerian airspace near the border with Mali.
