Ahizoun… How Long Will We Continue to Witness This Pattern of Failures?
With each global athletics championship, the same question echoes in the minds of Moroccan fans: “How long will these failures continue?” From Tokyo to Doha, and from Munich to Budapest, the same scene repeats itself, years pass, and Moroccan runners search for a glimmer of hope to raise their heads in competitions that have long been a source of pride for national sports.
In recent years, Moroccan athletics has experienced a series of disappointing results. Sudden withdrawals, continuous falls in qualification stages, and underwhelming performances from young athletes are all signs of a deeper crisis beyond mere bad luck or poor preparation. Even the few stars representing hope, such as Soufiane El Bakkali, find themselves under immense public pressure, trying to save face for a sport that suffers from repeated failures.
The problem lies not only in the individual performance of the runners but extends to the entire athletics system. Weak financial support, a lack of modern facilities, and an absence of psychological and technical training programs all contribute to making Moroccan athletes less competitive against global stars. Additionally, the lack of a long-term strategy to nurture a new generation of runners complicates the situation, as success remains temporary and comes in the form of rare individual achievements.
Despite all this, there is a fighting spirit and determination among Moroccan athletes, but this needs a nurturing environment, professional management, and advanced training programs that meet global standards. Moroccan fans, proud of the history of athletics, ask in unison: “Ahizoun… how long will we continue to witness this pattern of failures?”
The answer may not come quickly, but it begins with comprehensive change: supporting runners, developing infrastructure, and placing greater focus on the psychological and technical aspects of the sport. Moroccan talent exists, determination is present, but results require a clear plan and wise management to ensure that Morocco returns to the podiums of glory, where its name once shone among the world’s greats.
