The United Nations has commended the humanitarian initiative launched by King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, after he directed the dispatch of additional aid to the residents of Gaza. The organization deemed this step significant and impactful given the dire humanitarian conditions faced by the Palestinians in the region.
Stefan Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, stated in a comment to the Maghreb Arab Press that this royal decision holds great importance due to its direct effect on the lives of the population. He pointed out that the people of Gaza are suffering from a “severe shortage of everything, including food, medicine, and shelter,” which necessitates, according to him, that the international community “do everything in its power” to improve their humanitarian conditions. He also called for the necessary pressures to be exerted for an immediate ceasefire.
In the same context, British MP and former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Andrew Morrison described the royal initiative as “noble and generous,” emphasizing that it represents a model for the path to be followed to alleviate the suffering of the residents of the sector. He added: “The king is an inspiring leader, and his initiatives are a source of hope in the region,” stressing that this royal action during a sensitive time embodies the uniqueness of Morocco’s humanitarian efforts and lends credibility to its commitments, which will encourage other countries to follow suit.
For his part, French political science professor Christophe Boutin highlighted that King Mohammed VI, due to his distinguished position and personal influence on the international stage, is currently the only one capable of launching tangible aid for the Palestinians. He explained that this initiative comes in a complex regional context and represents a manifestation of a realistic, pragmatic diplomatic vision that has made Morocco a recognized player both in the region and beyond.
Boutin confirmed that Moroccan aid is characterized by its practicality and tangibility, unlike some media initiatives that only consider appearances. He reminded that this is not the first time Morocco has sent humanitarian aid since the onset of the crisis, as the king, as a guardian of this realistic diplomatic policy, consistently prioritizes the suffering of the Palestinians, leveraging his personal influence to launch initiatives that provide them with genuine support.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, the new humanitarian aid ordered by the king includes 100 tons of food and medicines, primarily aimed at vulnerable groups, especially children and infants. As in previous instances, this aid will be dispatched via an air bridge and delivered directly and promptly to the Palestinian recipients.
