Senegalese newspaper “Le Soleil”: Morocco solidifies its position as the top tourist destination in Africa

Morocco has become one of the most attractive countries for tourists on the African continent, where diverse nature intersects with rich history, exquisite cuisine, and global festivals. This image, experienced by visitors day after day, has been documented by the Senegalese newspaper “Le Soleil” in a detailed report confirming that the kingdom is establishing itself as a reference tourist destination, having achieved a new record in 2024 by attracting 17.4 million tourists.

The newspaper noted that this success reflects the strength of the tourism strategy adopted by Rabat, which has enhanced the kingdom’s presence among the world’s top destinations. It attributed this to a wide network of competitive airfare, a variety of accommodation options ranging from traditional guesthouses to modern hotels, and Morocco’s well-deserved reputation as a welcoming country.

The report highlighted several prominent destinations such as the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, the old city of Fez, Chefchaouen, the Merzouga Desert, and Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab, in addition to beach resorts like Taghazout and Saidia, considering that these sites reflect the cultural and geographical richness of the kingdom.

Additionally, the newspaper addressed Moroccan cuisine, which represents an integral part of the tourism experience, pointing out that dishes like tagine, couscous, and mint tea are emblematic of Morocco and are closely tied to the local spirit of hospitality.

Culturally, the newspaper emphasized that the major festivals hosted in Morocco enhance its tourist appeal, spotlighting the Gnaoua World Music Festival in Essaouira, which attracted around 300,000 participants last June, as well as the Fez Festival of Spiritual Music, Mawazine in Rabat, Jazzablanca, Tangier, Timitar in Agadir, and the Rose Festival in Beni Mellal.

The report concluded that the convergence of these elements positions Morocco as the top destination in Africa, providing its visitors with a rich and diverse experience that combines nature, culture, and hospitality.
