Sheikh Moulay Jamal Eddine Al-Qadiri Al-Boudchichi, the leader of the Boudchichiya Qadiriyya Sufi order, passed away today, Friday, August 8, 2025, at the age of 86 after a long battle with illness at the military hospital in Rabat.

A source from within the order confirmed that the sheikh died amidst feelings of sorrow and grief among his followers, both in Morocco and abroad. He was a prominent spiritual figure who played a significant role in promoting moderate Sunni Sufism and enhancing the values of purification and centrism, upholding the kingdom’s principles.

Moulay Jamal Eddine assumed leadership of the order in early 2017, following the passing of his father, Sheikh Hamza Ben Abbas, fulfilling his father’s wishes. He dedicated his life to managing the affairs of the zawiya and guiding its disciples, continuing the religious and spiritual role of the order on both national and international stages.

The late sheikh held a doctorate in Islamic sciences and was known for advocating Sufism as a method of spiritual education focused on conduct and ethics, serving the public good in full harmony with the Makhzen.

The Boudchichiya Qadiriyya order is one of the most prominent Sufi orders in Morocco, enjoying a broad presence both within the kingdom and beyond. It has contributed to enhancing Morocco’s image as a reference for religious tolerance and spiritual diplomacy through its participation in international forums and initiatives for interfaith and cultural dialogue.

Earlier, the late sheikh announced his wish for the spiritual trust to be passed to his eldest son, Moulay Munir Al-Qadiri Al-Boudchichi. This announcement was made during the eighth anniversary of his father’s death, the revered Sidi Hamza, at the zawiya’s headquarters in Medagh, Berkane.

With this announcement, Sheikh Moulay Jamal Eddine has established the principle of continuity in managing the order, which his followers see as a transfer of the “divine secret,” preserving the deeply rooted spiritual heritage of the Boudchichiya order.
