Launch of a New Generation of Regional Development Programs in Compliance with Royal Instructions

On August 1st in Tetouan, the Ministry of Interior initiated the implementation of the high royal directives outlined in the Throne Day speech on July 29, 2025. This was marked by a high-level meeting aimed at launching a new generation of territorial development programs, transitioning from traditional social development approaches to an integrated spatial development approach.

This significant meeting took place alongside the annual working meeting of the Ministry of Interior, gathering several ministers responsible for vital sectors, including the Minister of Interior, Minister of Equipment and Water, Minister of National Education, Preschool Education and Sports, Minister of Health and Social Protection, Minister of National Land Planning, Urbanism, Housing and City Policy, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, and Minister of Economic Integration, Small Business, Employment and Competencies, along with governors and regional administration leaders.

The meeting served as an opportunity to discuss ways to implement this ambitious royal project, considered a top national priority aimed at ensuring a decent living for Moroccan citizens by stimulating employment, enhancing basic social services, adopting a proactive and sustainable management model for water resources, and launching integrated regional qualification projects.

Participants emphasized the gravity of this responsibility, which requires collective mobilization and effective engagement from all stakeholders, particularly concerning strengthening coordination and achieving alignment, and adopting a unified participatory methodology that ensures harmony among various local efforts.

It was also affirmed at the end of the meeting the necessity for complete adherence to the contents of this new phase, based on integrated spatial development principles, focusing on governance of results and tangible impacts on citizens’ lives. The meeting concluded with the urgency of strengthening the linkage between public policies and citizens’ needs, embodying social and spatial justice, and effectively implementing the directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him.
