Onahi on the Brink of Leaving Marseille: A Spanish Tug-of-War to Finalize the Deal
ExpressTV: Mustafa Filali
It seems the saga of Moroccan international Azzedine Onahi’s departure from Olympique Marseille is nearing its conclusion, as the French club has entered advanced negotiations with Girona FC in Spain to finalize the transfer before the end of the ongoing summer transfer window.
Onahi, who shone during his loan spell last season with Greek club Panathinaikos (2024-2025), has attracted interest from several European teams due to his impressive performances. However, it has been clear since the start of the summer that coach Roberto De Zerbi and Marseille’s management do not plan to integrate him back into the first team, making his departure merely a matter of time.
According to journalist George Tsarouchas, negotiations between Girona and Marseille have reached an advanced stage, with the Catalan club considering an offer exceeding €10 million, along with a four-year contract for the 25-year-old player. The same source revealed that Espanyol Barcelona is still in the race for the transfer, opening the door for competition that could financially benefit Marseille.
Onahi, who declined lucrative offers from Russia, seems determined to embark on a new adventure in La Liga, making his move to the Spanish league nearly certain. Thus, Marseille may manage to secure a profitable deal for a player who has completely fallen out of their sporting plans.
