Morocco places education at the heart of discussions at the African Union’s Peace and Security Council to achieve peace and development.
The Moroccan delegation attending a plenary session of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council in Addis Ababa emphasized that the Kingdom prioritizes education as a strategic pillar for South-South cooperation, based on a visionary royal approach centered on solidarity and innovation.
The delegation noted that Morocco is committed to ensuring every African child receives safe and inclusive education, stating that education is a fundamental driver of peace and development on the continent.
It highlighted that thousands of students from various African countries benefit annually from Moroccan scholarships, facilitating their access to high-quality university and vocational training in strategic fields such as sciences, health, agriculture, and engineering.
The delegation explained that this cooperation is implemented through the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation, which monitors the success of African youth and offers support. Morocco also shares its expertise in educational reform, content digitalization, and ensuring continuous education during crises, in addition to building and improving infrastructure and training national staff.
The delegation warned about the impacts of armed conflicts on education, including the destruction of schools, forced displacement of teachers and students, and school dropouts. It also noted the negative effect of diverting financial resources towards military efforts on the quality and continuity of education, depriving entire generations of their basic rights and increasing marginalization and instability.
The delegation affirmed that education is not only a right but also a strategic lever for conflict prevention and the establishment of sustainable peace by promoting values of tolerance, respect, and intercultural dialogue, and by developing responsible citizens capable of peacefully resolving conflicts.
The Moroccan delegation concluded by emphasizing the necessity of sustainable investment in inclusive and quality educational systems, and the protection of educational institutions as safe havens, to ensure a future filled with hope and opportunities for children. It stressed that investing in education means investing in the security, stability, and development of the continent.
