Morocco is nearing a significant deal to acquire Brazilian “KC-390” aircraft to enhance its air capabilities.

According to a report by “Defence And Security Alert,” Morocco is set to sign a contract with Brazilian company “Embraer” for the purchase of four or five tactical transport aircraft of the “KC-390 Millennium” model, with a value close to $600 million. This move is part of a plan to replace the aging “C-130H Hercules” fleet.

These aircraft are distinguished by a payload capacity of up to 26 tons and a speed of nearly 870 km/h, featuring advanced flight systems and the ability to operate in challenging field conditions, providing high flexibility for both humanitarian and military missions.

The report suggests that the deal represents a qualitative shift in the capabilities of the Moroccan Air Force, helping to narrow the gap with Algeria, which operates Russian Il76 transport planes, while also enhancing Morocco’s alignment with NATO systems. Furthermore, the choice of the Brazilian platform reflects Rabat’s desire to diversify its arms sources and strengthen partnerships with Global South countries.

The agreement, expected to be finalized before the end of the year, will encompass training and logistical support with the possibility of launching joint industrial projects, with delivery operations slated to commence in 2027.
