Morocco Among Switzerland’s Key Economic Partners in Africa
Evo German, the Deputy Secretary General at the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), confirmed that Morocco is classified as one of Switzerland’s key economic partners in Africa. This statement was made on Thursday during a ceremony organized by the Moroccan Embassy in Bern to commemorate the 26th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s accession to the throne.
German explained in a statement to the Maghreb Arab Press that Morocco has been included this year in the list of target countries under SECO’s new international economic cooperation strategy, reflecting Bern’s desire to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in infrastructure, tourism, and trade.
He added that Morocco is one of Switzerland’s most important trading partners in Africa, praising the country’s strategic role as a gateway for Swiss companies to African markets.
The Moroccan-Swiss economic relations, which German described as “stable and promising,” benefit from a favorable context bolstered by major projects launched by Morocco, including its preparations for hosting the 2030 World Cup.
For her part, Monika Schmutz Kirgoz, the Deputy Secretary-General at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, commended the strength and diversity of the bilateral partnership, pointing out that “relations with Morocco are excellent and encompass various areas, including economics, politics, and research and development.”
