Four Deaths Due to Rabies
Recent medical reports have revealed the deaths of four individuals in Morocco from rabies, in tragic incidents that could have been avoided had the victims received timely preventive treatment. The lethal virus has a mortality rate of 100% as soon as symptoms appear, leaving no chance for recovery unless there is immediate intervention following exposure.
Rabies, according to Dr. Mohamed Mouhawi, a specialist in anesthesia and emergency medicine at Ibn Rushd University Hospital in Casablanca, is transmitted through bites from stray dogs or scratches from infected cats, targeting the central nervous system and leading to a rapid decline in health that can result in death within a few days. Symptoms include fever, confusion, delirium, difficulty swallowing, and severe fear of water.
Despite its extreme danger, experts assert that this disease can be prevented 100% if the vaccine is administered promptly after any bite or scratch from a suspected infected animal. Doctors emphasize that underestimating minor wounds caused by animals in areas where stray dogs are prevalent can be fatal.
Dr. Mouhawi issued an important warning to anyone facing a potential injury: it is essential to thoroughly wash the wound with soap and water for at least 15 minutes, then go immediately to the nearest healthcare center to receive the antirabies vaccine. Delay in treatment can turn a minor wound into a tragedy, while prompt action can be the decisive factor between life and death.
