Digital Economy: Morocco Surpasses 2026 Goals Ahead of Schedule

The digital economy and services outsourcing sector in Morocco made significant strides in 2024, achieving a record turnover in exports of 26.219 billion dirhams, exceeding the interim target set for 2026, which was 25 billion dirhams.

This momentum has contributed to the creation of over 22,550 direct job opportunities through investment agreements with global companies, raising the total stable jobs in the sector to around 148,500 positions.

The government has strategically prioritized digital transformation as a lever for economic and social development, launching the national strategy “Digital Morocco 2030,” which focuses on two main pillars: digitizing public services and stimulating the digital economy. Efforts included simplifying and digitizing high-demand processes, such as school registration, obtaining nursery licenses, and tax support for outsourcing companies, alongside developing the “Idarati” portal to become a unified, accessible platform.

Morocco successfully signed 34 agreements and memorandums of understanding with global companies, with investments exceeding 2.5 billion dirhams, and established integrated areas for outsourcing with advanced digital infrastructure. An incentive system was implemented that includes tax reductions, and the “Morocco 2 Outsource” platform was launched to facilitate investor access, complemented by international promotional campaigns highlighting Morocco’s appeal and strategic location.

The government has activated innovative incubation and financing programs to support startups through partnerships with the Deposit and Management Fund and the Mohammed VI Investment Fund, initiating plans to expand the “technopark” network from four to seven regions by 2026. Additionally, it supported the participation of 200 Moroccan startups in the “GITEX Africa” exhibition, covering 95% of their costs, and developed support programs extending from the idea stage to acceleration.

The government continued to enhance digital competencies through national programs involving universities, programming schools, and intensive training to boost competitiveness, encourage innovation, and create new employment opportunities. It recognized that digitizing public services and developing the digital economy is a strategic choice that aligns with rapidly changing global transformations and bolsters Morocco’s position as a regional digital hub.
