Bilal Khennous: Rejects the Saudi Path and Clings to the Dream of the Old Continent

Express TV: Mustapha Filali

The file of Moroccan international Bilal Khennous remains open to all possibilities as the closing hours of the summer transfer window approach. The player, who caught attention upon his transfer to Leicester City from Genk for over €23 million, had an outstanding individual season with the “Foxes,” despite the team’s relegation to the Championship.

At just 21 years old and with 22 international matches under his belt, Khennous has become the talk of major European clubs, which have been following his remarkable development and regard him as one of the most promising talents in the playmaking position. Despite interest from several clubs, including Crystal Palace, which made an offer of around €30 million, Leicester’s management refused to part with their star, insisting on receiving over half of the amount upfront this summer due to prior financial commitments to his former club, Genk (approximately €15 million).

On the other hand, Leicester’s management tried to push the player to move to the Saudi League through Al-Ittihad, which showed considerable interest. However, Khennous was resolute in his stance, firmly rejecting the idea of experiencing the “Saudi Pro League,” preferring to focus on a sporting project that aligns with his ambitions, especially with the Africa Cup of Nations approaching, which will be hosted by Morocco early next year.

While the situation seemed complicated, Stuttgart re-entered the fray after having rejected a previous offer of €20 million weeks ago. However, the German club, which boosted its finances with the sale of Wölltmaed to Newcastle for €90 million, is preparing a new offer that might better meet Leicester’s demands.

The ball is now in the court of the “Foxes,” who are searching for a balance between their financial interests and the player’s strong desire to pursue a European experience and make his mark in one of the largest leagues. As for Khennous, his position remains steadfast: no to leaving for money, yes to a sporting project that offers him the chance to develop and forge glory.
