Achraf Hakimi is nearing the top among the most decorated African footballers.

Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi, a star for Paris Saint-Germain, has solidified his status among the legends of African football, increasing his trophy count to 17 after winning the UEFA Super Cup with his team.

The right-back for the Moroccan national team has now attained the title of the third most decorated African player in professional football history, equaling significant historical figures. He is just one trophy shy of the leaders, Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o and Ivory Coast’s Yaya Touré, who each have 18 titles.

Hakimi surpassed Algerian Riyad Mahrez, who currently plays for Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia and has 16 titles, while Egyptian Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool star, is further behind with only 12 titles.

Hakimi’s latest achievement came after Paris Saint-Germain triumphed over Tottenham Hotspur in a penalty shootout (4-3) in the UEFA Super Cup final, following a 2-2 draw at the end of regular time, held at the “Friuli” Stadium in Udinese, Italy.

Hakimi concluded the previous season with four titles at the Parisian club: the French league, the French Cup, the Champions Trophy, and the UEFA Champions League, continuing to etch his name in gold in the annals of African football.
