A massive forest fire engulfs large areas on the outskirts of Tetouan
A large-scale forest fire broke out today, Tuesday evening, in the mountainous area of Benquerir near Tetouan, consuming significant portions of vegetation. According to field data, flames and thick columns of smoke were seen rising from the fire’s location, while firefighting teams from civil protection, supported by local authorities, auxiliary forces, and volunteers from the community, worked intensively to contain the flames and prevent their spread to populated areas or neighboring forests.
This incident coincided with another fire that erupted earlier today in the Dardara area of the Chefchaouen province, highlighting the increasing frequency of forest fires in the north of the kingdom in recent days, driven by an intense heatwave and strong winds affecting the region.
Authorities continue efforts to extinguish the fires amid concerns about the expanding environmental damage these blazes are causing to the local ecological system.
